This is a beginner’s course aimed at introducing you to the key principles and moves of Cuban Salsa. It is not necessary to come with a partner as the first part of the class will be about learning the steps. Following that we will work in pairs to apply the steps to dancing in couples.
Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to salsa.
The course will be led by certified instructor Jaime who trained at the famous Mangosta Academy in Chile. Jaime was also part of a professional dance troupe in Chile in the 1980’s where he performed Jazz, Hip Hop and Contemporary dance as well as Salsa with Many Castro (a winner of America’s Got Talent who now resides in California). Jaime has been teaching Cuban Salsa for over 10 years.
The initiative is a collaboration between Jaime Ruiz, Guild Hall, the Southampton Cultural Center and OLA.
Este es un curso para principiantes diseñado para presentarles los principios y pasos de Salsa Cubana.
No es necesario ir con un compañero como la primera parte de la clase será sobre aprender los pasos. Siguiendo esto, trabajáramos juntos por aplicarlo aprendido a bailar en parejas. Póngase sus zapatos de baile y venga bailar.

Final Screening held on August 3
For Ages 12-15
Filmmakers are invited to join film teachers and other special guests to create stories through the medium of digital video. The focus of the workshop is visual self-expression. Students will learn the entire process—from development and writing, to acting, blocking, production, cinematography, and editing. Experienced filmmakers will share their knowledge and craft each day. Intermediate students will have a deeper hands on experience in creating their films, especially in shooting and editing the final products.

New this year to the Student Art Festival High School Awards, Guest Awards Juror, Darlene Charneco, a professional artist on the East End, will work alongside the Guild Hall Teen Arts Council (GHTAC) and recognize outstanding works by student artists grades 9-12. Awardees will receive certificates of creative excellence at an awards ceremony hosted by the GH Teen Arts Council. The 2019 GHTAC is comprised of fifteen students from Pierson, Bridgehampton, Southampton, Ross, and East Hampton High Schools who meet weekly with Corey Jane Cardoso, GHTAC Coordinator, and Anthony Madonna, Patti Kenner Fellow in Arts Education, to generate programming for their peers.
Karen Charnele Brown is a native of East Hampton, New York. Charnele is best known for her portrayal of Kim Reese, the pre-med student on the hit NBC sitcom A Different World. She was also one of the first Americans in the hit Broadway musical Sarafina, which was nominated for a Tony Award. She’s done numerous off-Broadway plays, as well as cabaret in New York City. She has also toured with the musical Heaven’s Child, The Emmet Till Story, with Regina Bell. Charnele’s film credits includes: Spike Lee’s Drop Squad, The Kangeroo, and Tendrils, which won 9 indie awards. She’s appeared on numerous hit sitcoms: Girlfriends, My Wife and Kids, Living Single, Oliver Beene, Martin. She’s also spearheaded an acting workshop at The Challenger Memorial Correctional Facility offering young adults an opportunity to develop skills and possibly another way out of gang life. Charnele has also assisted in creating an acting workshop at A Place Called Home.
Lynn Sherr to moderate the discussion. She is an American broadcast journalist and author, best known as a correspondent for the ABC news magazine 20/20 and a long-time journalist for ABC. Lynn is a long time East End resident.
