Hamptons International Film Festival presents SummerDocs Hosted by Alec Baldwin: Circus of Books

Alec Baldwin leads conversations with filmmakers and guests, presenting new and groundbreaking documentary films and thought-provoking stories to the East End.

For over 35 years, the gay porn shop, Circus of Books, served as the epicenter for LGBT life and culture in Los Angeles. Unbeknownst to many in the community it served, the store was cultivated and cared for by its owners, Karen and Barry Mason: a straight couple with three children. CIRCUS OF BOOKS is an intimate portrait of the Masons and their journey to become one of the biggest distributors of hardcore gay porn in the United States. Their story unfolds through the lens of their daughter, filmmaker and artist Rachel Mason.

Hamptons International Film Festival presents NOW SHOWING: Before You Know It

Now Showing brings acclaimed first-run art house, independent, and world cinema films currently in theaters to the East End.

Stage manager Rachel Gurner still lives in her childhood apartment—along with her off-kilter actress sister, Jackie; eccentric playwright father Mel; and deadpan preteen niece Dodge—above the tiny theatre they own and operate. Level-headed and turtleneck-wearing Rachel is the only thing standing between her family and utter chaos. Then, in the wake of a sudden family tragedy, Rachel and Jackie learn their presumed-deceased mother is actually alive and thriving as a soap-opera star. Now the sisters’ already-precarious balance turns upside down, and Rachel must figure out how to liberate herself from this surreal imbroglio.

“A refreshing comedy… A noteworthy work from an upcoming dynamic duo, co-writers Hannah Pearl Utt and Jen Tullock, who have a chemistry that you want to see in more films, especially if they’re like Before You Know It.” –RogerEbert.com

“Engrossing and entertaining… A strong debut that pushes the boundaries of what movies made from the female gaze can mean to audiences of all kinds.” – The Hollywood Reporter”A low-key charmer that promises great things from the pair.” –Indiewire

“A surefooted debut that promises writing partners Utt and Tullock, who have previously collaborated on their web series “Disengaged” and the Sundance short “Partners,” are as dramatically competent as they are sweetly sardonic. If there’s any justice in the world of festivals, this will open a lot of doors for its creators, who have eccentric chops worthy of a place among indie comedy greats like Noël Wells, Jenny Slate, and Natasha Lyonne.” –The Playlist

Melissa Errico Sondheim Sublime

The Wall Street Journal raves about Melissa Errico’s new album Sondheim Sublime: “The best all-Sondheim album ever recorded, in which radiantly warm singing and sensitive, intelligent interpretation are tightly and inseparably entwined.” For one night only Errico brings her unique vision of Broadway’s greatest songwriter to Guild Hall.  Guaranteed to be the Broadway-cabaret event of the season!

“Isn’t it bliss? asks Stephen Sondheim rhetorically in his most famous creation Send In The Clowns and bliss it is when the thrilling Melissa Errico lets loose for one golden hour of the greatest living composer’s work on her new album Sondheim Sublime.” –Mark Shenton

“Just re-visited Melissa Errico’s Sondheim Sublime show at Live at Zedel: when she sings “Move On” from Sunday in the Park with George this couldn’t be truer:
‘Anything you do
Let it come from you
Then it will be new
Give us more to see’
As she connects with Sondheim, we connect with her. It’s not just the ravishing, shimmering vocal tones Melissa Errico brings to Sondheim; it’s also the emotional and intellectual connections she makes to his ambivalence and contradictory feelings. It’s a masterclass in appreciating and understanding his work.” –Mark Shenton

“Melissa Errico’s masterclass is a must-see for every cabaret wannabe as well as more experienced practitioners who think they’ve cracked this art form but haven’t. She is one of a kind.” –Jeremy Chapman, Musical Theatre Review

KidFEST: Teatro SEA’s La Cucarachita Martina

“Cockroaches are people, too. Well, at least they are in this production, presented in an easy-to-understand mix of Spanish and English by Teatro SEA, which specializes in Latino theater for children. The heroine of the show, is a tiny cutie who is nonetheless much bigger than anything scurrying around your basement. But not to worry: She’s a bunraku-style puppet, seeking true love.”–Laurel Graeber, New York Times

A live-action Latin puppet show rock-n-roll musical mash-up straight from NYC’s celebrated bilingual theater Teatro SEA, La Cucarachita Martina is a tale based on the popular Cuban and Puerto Rican children’s story of the little roach Martina who learns many lessons on her journey to find true love. Martina is visited by a number of potential suitors, but when she meets Mr. Perez, she falls in love with him right away. They get married in a great big celebration. All the little insects attended the party. Cucarachita Martina and little Mr. Perez lived happily ever after.
