VALENTINE’S DAY SCREENING OF THE PRINCESS BRIDE

A Tribute to Rob Reiner

This Valentine’s Day, Guild Hall invites you to fall in love all over again with a very special screening of The Princess Bride—a timeless fairytale of adventure, romance, and wit—presented as a heartfelt tribute to the film’s beloved director, Rob Reiner. Few movies have captured the imagination across generations quite like this one, blending swashbuckling heroics, unforgettable characters, and endlessly quotable lines into a story that feels as fresh and joyful today as it did upon its release.

Whether you’re arriving hand in hand for the perfect date night, sharing the magic with family, or introducing the film to a new generation, this Valentine’s Day celebration offers something for everyone. It’s a romantic comedy without clichés, an action-adventure with heart, and a family favorite that rewards repeat viewings—especially on the big screen.

This special screening honors Rob Reiner’s enduring legacy while reminding us why The Princess Bride remains a cultural touchstone—an ideal way to spend Valentine’s Day, whether you’re coupled up, coming with friends, or simply in love with movies.

On the way he meets an accomplished swordsman and a huge, super strong giant, both of whom become his companions in his quest to rescue Buttercup.

YES, AND: INTRO TO IMPROV

SIX-WEEK COURSE
TUESDAYS, FEBRUARY 3-MARCH 10, 6-7:30 PM
$300 ($270 for Members)

Join Guild Hall’s Kayla Matters and Amy Kirwin for a six-week improv adventure—perfect for adult learners of every experience level. This course dives into the sacred principles of improv (like saying “Yes, and…” even when you deeply disagree) while helping you flex collaboration, creativity, and bold, glorious spontaneity.

After six weeks of controlled nonsense, you’ll present an invited sharing for friends and family—an evening where your loved ones will witness your transformation and whisper, “We don’t know what happened, but we support them.” Applause will be given. Identities may be shed. Someone might become a mailbox.

Bring your imagination, your humor, and a willingness to look ridiculous. (Trust us—that’s a good thing.)

Improv is distinct from stand-up comedy (which uses pre-written jokes and is performed solo) and sketch comedy (which is scripted and rehearsed). It is a team-based art form that emphasizes support, trust, and shared creativity. We will explore these core principles:
  • Yes, and…: The foundational rule of improv. Performers agree with what their partner has presented (the “yes”) and then add new information to build the scene (the “and”). This fosters a collaborative environment and keeps the scene moving forward, rather than shutting down ideas.
  • Active Listening: Since everything is unplanned, performers must listen closely to their scene partners and be present in the moment to react to new information.
  • Making Choices: Improvisers make strong, specific choices about who their character is, where they are, and what the central conflict is to establish the scene’s reality quickly.
  • Embracing Mistakes: There are no “mistakes” in improv, only unexpected offers. Performers justify whatever happens and weave it into the narrative, which helps maintain momentum and can lead to hilarious and creative turn.
