Experience the future of classical music. Join legendary violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman as he conducts the world’s most gifted young string players in a rare “off-campus” performance. This seven-week residency culmination features soaring orchestral masterworks and a breathtaking choral performance led by The Perlman Music Program’s Assistant Conductor and alum, Nico Olarte-Hayes. Don’t miss this one-night-only showcase of the next generation of virtuosos.

Founded by Toby Perlman as a refuge to nurture early promise, The Perlman Music Program is home to the very best young artists from around the world. Each summer, The Program draws the most gifted young violinists, violists, and cellists (ages 12-18) from around the to its historic Shelter Island. Under a faculty led by violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman, students engage in an intensive curriculum of solo, chamber, orchestral, and choral performance.

  • The Perlman Music Program

    The Perlman Music Program: Founded by Toby Perlman in 1994, The Perlman Music Program offers unparalleled musical training to young string players of rare and special talent. Each summer, gifted violinists, violists, and cellists (ages 12-18) from across the globe gather at its historic Shelter Island campus. Under a faculty led by violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman, students engage in an intensive curriculum of solo, chamber, orchestral, and choral performance. Alumni of The Perlman Music Program are the new leaders of classical music – shining as soloists, orchestral principals, and distinguished faculty worldwide.

  • Itzhak Perlman

    Itzhak Perlman: Undeniably the reigning virtuoso of the violin, Itzhak Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician. Beloved for his charm and humanity as well as his talent, he is treasured by audiences throughout the world who respond not only to his remarkable artistry, but also to the irrepressible joy of making music, which he communicates. In January 2009, Mr. Perlman was honored to take part in the Inauguration of President Barack Obama, premiering a piece written for the occasion by John Williams and performing with clarinetist Anthony McGill, pianist Gabriela Montero, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In December 2003 the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts granted Mr. Perlman a Kennedy Center Honor celebrating his distinguished achievements and contributions to the cultural and educational life of our nation. In May 2007, he performed at the State Dinner for Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, hosted by President George W. Bush and Mrs. Bush at the White House.

  • Nico Olarte-Hayes

    Nico Olarte-Hayes: Recipient of the Leonore Annenberg Arts Fellowship, cellist and conductor Nico Olarte-Hayes has given solo recitals at Lincoln Center and the Neue Galerie in New York City, in Memphis’ Artists Ascending Series and New York’s Young Musician’s Forum, and throughout the Netherlands and Japan. As conductor, Nico is the recent recipient of a Sir Georg Solti Foundation Career Assistance Award and winner of the Vincent C. LaGuardia Conducting Competition. He has conducted the New York City Ballet, New World Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, and Salzburg Chamber Soloists, among many others, and served as Music Director of New York’s IconoClassic Opera and Harvard’s Dunster House Opera.
