IN-PROCESS: J. BOUEY DANCE PROJECTS – THE LIVING ANCESTORS

Go behind the scenes of The Living Ancestors, a new multimedia dance-theater work conceived and directed by j. bouey, a 2026 Guild Hall William P. Rayner Artist-in-Residence. Through performance excerpts and conversation, this In-Process presentation invites audiences into the development of bouey’s ambitious disco-funk space opera.

Guided by a poetic libretto by Junauda Petrus, The Living Ancestors imagines a future global society on the precipice of abolishing oppression, where a renowned band of griots reveals their origins as formerly enslaved clones from the Underground. Drawing on research into Punking and Waacking, bouey and the company connect these forms to the liberating underground club cultures from which they emerged.

Featuring Dane Deveraux’s sonic landscape of funk, disco, and house music and George Del Barrio’s Live Performance Camera Obscura projection design, the work brings movement, music, text, research, and live media together to build a bold speculative world.

Slip on your glowing headphones, show off your best costume, and choose your frequency… if you dare. With electrifying lights, spooky prizes, and a dance floor full of costumed creatures, this is the party to wake the spirits — and keep them dancing.

🎧 Headphones provided. Costumes encouraged. Good vibes required.

Your favorite DJ’s return to the Furman Garden, where Mister Lama will spin iconic disco and funk tunes, DJ Divina will drop some hot Latin beats, and Schvitz-a-Lot will blast the most danceable pop and hip-hop hits from the ’80s to today. Get your most fun-loving group of friends together and grab some headphones, choose your channel, and dance the night away under the stars in a high-energy, all-ages celebration of sound. And for those who don’t feel like dancing, spectating is almost as fun!

HAMPTON BALLET THEATRE SCHOOL – SLEEPING BEAUTY

The Hampton Ballet Theatre School is excited to present their Spring 2026 ballet, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty. The ballet is choreographed by the director of HBTS, Sara Jo Strickland, and includes beautiful costumes designed by Yuka Silvera and Kate McManus and lighting designed by Sebastian Paczynski.

The role of Aurora will be danced by Major Bovio and Lauren Rosario, partnered by guest artist James Stevko, dancing the role of Prince Désiré. The role of The Lilac Fairy will be danced by Leila Genender and Jade Mancilla and Twyla Tracy and Olivia Quinn will be dancing the role of The Bluebird. Guest artist Nick Peregrino will be dancing “Puss and Boots” partnered with Violet McManus and Catherine Porter and Isla Moskowitz and Freida Winter will be dancing “Little Red Riding Hood” partnered with guest artist Malik Berry as the wolf. Lila D’Angelo and Summer Lillie will dance Cinderella and Prince Charming will be danced by Vincenzo James Harty. The evil Carabosse is played by Ayla Gaites and Leila Genender.

All HBTS female dancers are Pro Student Level 9, the most advanced level at Hampton Ballet Theatre School. Sleeping Beauty will delight those of all ages, as the students of HBTS transport the audience to a magical land filled with fairies, good and evil, Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses and beloved fairytale characters.
