Warren Hildebrand

Warren Hildebrand is an artist, musician, producer and record label-operator who was born in Toronto and has been living in New York for the last decade. Since 2009 he has been releasing music under his solo moniker Foxes in Fiction, and releasing music by himself and others on the acclaimed record label he founded called Orchid Tapes. He occasionally contributes editorial work to leftist cultural magazine The Baffler. 

Beginning in 2010, Hildebrand has released three albums under the name Foxes in Fiction to critical praise. 2014’s Ontario Gothic has been hailed as a standout album of the dream pop genre and was co-released in Japan by the record label PLANCHA. Hildebrand tours regularly both within the United States and internationally. 

Hildebrand is the founder and operator of the record label Orchid Tapes which was started in 2010 to release his first record as Foxes in Fiction. Since then, he’s gone on to release over 70 albums by dozens of artists, including breakout records by Alex G (who went on to become a regular collaborator with Frank Ocean), Soccer Mommy, Ricky Eat Acid and Pleasure Systems.

Since 2023 he has collaborated with artist Zain Alam and videographer Sam B. Jones on the multi-part sound and video installation piece Meter & Light, which most recently opened at The Shed as part of their 2025 Open Call program, which featured a performance by a five-piece ensemble that interpreted the music composed for Meter & Light (featuring Darian Donovan Thomas on violin) that Hildebrand scored, arranged and performed as an ensemble member.
