  • Louise & Howie Phanstiel

LOUISE PHANSTIEL joined the Board of Trustees of Guild Hall in March 2023.  Since retiring in 2008 she has devoted her time to serving on various public and not-for-profit Boards.  She is the Chair of the Board of Directors of Myriad Genetics. Inc. (NASDQ:MYGN), and is also on the Board of Directors of Butterfly Network, Inc. (NYSE:BFLY).  Louise also serves on the Board of Trustees for Syracuse University, Southampton Hospital Association and Shenandoah Valley Academy.  Louise’s professional career was spent in Los Angeles as a senior executive at Elevance Health, formerly WellPoint Inc. and was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

HOWIE PHANSTIEL is a former Chair of the Board and CEO of PacifiCare Health Systems, a leading west coast health insurer prior to its merger with United Health Group in 2005.  Now a lifetime Board trustee of Syracuse University, he previously served as Co-Chair of the university’s second major capital campaign, as Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the LA Regional Council.

Louise and Howie have been bicoastal residents of the East End since 2009 and in 2016 made Amagansett their permanent residence along with their adorable cats, Mr. Tubbs and JoJo.  Louise loves to needlepoint, and Howie is an avid gardener.  They both enjoy sharing the bounty of their vegetable garden, fruit trees and bee hives with friends and neighbors.

Named to the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s Top 50 List in 2011, the Phanstiel’s philanthropy extends to a broad range of giving for the arts, healthcare, education, environmental conservation, and animal welfare causes.  Louise and Howie are proud to support Guild Hall and its extraordinary contributions to the East End Community.  Guild Hall is a faithful steward of the philanthropy entrusted to this enduring institution.  The Phanstiels invite you to continue your generous support of Guild Hall.
