Guild Hall proudly presents Mary Heilmann: Water Way, the artist’s first major solo show on the East End.
A longtime resident of Bridgehampton and a key figure in the region’s creative community, Heilmann draws deep inspiration from her lifelong connection to the ocean—from her California upbringing to her East Hampton studio.
This exhibition explores over 40 works from the 1980s to the present, including paintings, ceramics, and works on paper that reflect her bold use of color, geometry, and autobiographical abstraction.
Water is a central motif, shaping her use of light, palette, and composition—often inspired by sunsets, waves, and the fluid motion of diving.
Heilmann’s practice bridges personal memory with visual rhythm, offering viewers a vibrant, emotional lens on both landscape and inner life.
This long-anticipated exhibition was shaped closely with the artist and curated by Melanie Crader and the Guild Hall museum team.
If you’re searching for free contemporary art exhibitions in East Hampton, this landmark show is not to be missed.

Guild Hall presents Miles of Smiles, the first museum exhibition in the East End by artist, former dealer, and cultural instigator Joel Mesler—a resident of East Hampton since 2017. Known for his bold typography, graphic patterns, and self-aware wit, Mesler transforms personal narrative into universal reflections on identity, emotion, and memory.
This immersive installation blurs the lines between gallery, archive, and studio. Alongside his own paintings and mixed media works, Mesler invites visitors into a curated “horror vacui” environment—a maximalist space filled with personal artifacts, family mementos, and works by artists he loves and collects.
Featured creators include Rashid Johnson, Sheree Hovsepian, Henry Taylor, and Francesco Clemente, among others.
Miles of Smiles isn’t just a visual experience—it’s a meeting place. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with the artist during open office hours and community programs hosted within the space.
If you’re searching for contemporary art installations in East Hampton or free museum exhibitions on Long Island, this is a uniquely intimate and thought-provoking highlight of the season.
🎨 Student Art Festival: Rauschenberg100 (November 16, 2025 – January 4, 2026)
A highlight of Guild Hall’s calendar of free cultural events in East Hampton, the Student Art Festival: Rauschenberg100 celebrates creativity across generations.
This year’s edition honors the centennial of legendary artist Robert Rauschenberg by showcasing original works from K–12 students across the East End who draw inspiration from his legacy of experimentation, multimedia practice, and social engagement.
Open to the public at no cost, this community-centered exhibition transforms the galleries into a dynamic space for education and artistic exchange.
Families, teachers, and visitors alike are invited to experience how young artists interpret themes of identity, environment, and innovation—making this festival one of the most inclusive and engaging winter art events in the Hamptons.
