Guild Hall and OLA of Eastern Long Island present Fuenteovejuna: East End, a bold reimagining of Lope de Vega’s 17th-century play. Co-directed by Guild Hall Community Artists-in-Residence, Margarita Espada and Minerva Perez, this production—performed entirely in Spanish— tells the story of a community’s courageous stand against tyranny.
Featuring a talented cast of Latino community members from across Long Island, Fuenteovejuna: East End is the first Spanish-language theater production at Guild Hall.

Elvia Bennet
Mi nombre es Elvia Bennett. Nací en Colombia, donde Estudié Administración de Empresas.
En mi paso por la Universidad, pertenecí al grupo de danza folclorica y éste fué mi inicio en el arte. Después de graduarme de la Universidad, vine a Estados Unidos a visitar a mi hermana y terminé quedandome en éste pais.
En la actualidad trabajo como Administradora de una Propiedad y gracias a la flexibilidad de éste trabajo, he tenido la oportunidad de explorar otros intereses como el Yoga, tocar el tambor, teatro.
Tambien, el año pasado participé en la obra teatral Fuenteovejuna la cual fué una oportunidad que no solo me ayudó a crecer como persona sino también de unir y conectar con la Comunidad Latina y teatral.
Espero que vengan muchos proyectos como éste, donde más miembros de la comunidad tengan la oportunidad de ser parte de estos eventos.
My name is Elvia Bennett. I was born in Colombia, where I studied Business Administration.
During my time at the university, I was a member of the folk dance troupe, and this marked my introduction to the arts. After graduating, I came to the United States to visit my sister and ended up staying in this country.
Currently, I work as a Property Manager; thanks to the flexibility of this job, I have had the opportunity to explore other interests, such as yoga, drumming, and theater.
Additionally, last year I participated in the theatrical production *Fuenteovejuna*—an opportunity that not only helped me grow as a person but also allowed me to unite with and connect to the Latino and theater communities.
I hope that many more projects like this one come along, giving more members of the community the opportunity to participate.

Tamy E Calapucha, joven de 20 años proveniente de la Amazonía ecuatoriana, es una apasionada del arte que da sus primeros pasos en el mundo del teatro, impulsada por su sueño de actuar y su deseo de conectar con el público. Ha participado en la obra teatral “Fuente Ovejuna East End”, dirigida por Minerva Pérez y Margarita Espada. Aunque es una persona introvertida, su dedicación y ganas de aprender la han llevado a asumir este nuevo reto con valentía e ilusión. Para ella, el teatro se ha convertido en un espacio de descubrimiento personal y crecimiento, donde transforma su timidez en expresión y su silencio en emoción. Con determinación y grandes sueños, Tamy avanza con la firme convicción de que la pasión, el esfuerzo la llevarán a triunfar y a alcanzar grandes logros.

Tamy E Calapucha, a 20-year-old young woman from the Ecuadorian Amazon, is passionate about the arts and is taking her first steps into the world of theater, driven by her dream of acting and her desire to connect with audiences. She has participated in the theatrical production Fuente Ovejuna East End, directed by Minerva Pérez and Margarita Espada. Although she is an introverted person, her dedication and eagerness to learn have led her to embrace this new challenge with courage and enthusiasm. For her, theater has become a space for personal discovery and growth, where she transforms her shyness into expression and her silence into emotion. With determination and big dreams, Tamy moves forward with the firm belief that passion and hard work will lead her to success and great achievements.

He is currently residing in New York City after having graduated from The Stella Adler studio of acting. His recent roles include: Hamlet in Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’, Bottom in ‘A midsummer night's dream’, Weston Hurley in ‘Fifth of July’, and Baylor in ‘A Lie of the Mind’.

Wilfredo Díaz is a writer and communicator in the field of personal growth, an entrepreneur, and a leadership motivator for aspiring entrepreneurs.
He studied advertising design at the Colombo Europeo in Colombia. After emigrating to the United Kingdom, he dedicated himself to promoting leadership and pursuing his dream of becoming a writer. He is currently developing his literary passion while conducting self-help and personal development workshops, which include programs designed to help many people find direction, discover their purpose, live without limits, and rekindle the desire to reconnect with their invaluable and limitless inner power.
He is also developing his own program called CRECER ES PODER (Growing is Power), whose mission is to inspire millions of people to propel themselves to higher levels of self-improvement and to challenge the illusion of comfort created by conformity.

Ella vive en Hampton Bays. Heidy está muy feliz de hacer parte de esta maravillosa obra de teatro. Siempre soñó con actuar pero nunca antes tuve la oportunidad de hacerlo.Heidy Escudero is Colombian-Ecuadorian. She is a social communicator. She has been working for OLA for over three years. She loves dancing. She has two children, a 14-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son. She lives in Hampton Bays. She is so happy to be part of this wonderful theater production. She has always dreamed of acting but never had the opportunity to do so before.

Margarita Espada
Margarita Espada (MFA) is an award-winning performer, educator, cultural maker, researcher, and activist in the fields and studies of physical theater, body and embodiments, settlers-colonialism, race, ethnicity and migration.
Margarita is the founder and director of Teatro Experimental Yerbabuja, an art organization with the mission to use the arts as a tool for social change (www.teatroyerbabruja.org). She is part of the faculty at the Department of Women Study at Stony Brook University where she teaches theater and activism.
Margarita received her Master of Fine Art in Dramaturgy from Stony Brook University and her Bachelor of Art in Education from Puerto Rico University. She is a New York State and Puerto Rico-certified theater teacher with over 30 years of experience as an educator, performer, playwright, arts activist, and cultural and community organizer.
Margarita has conducted research, supported school and organization change efforts, and facilitated professional learning around applied theater, culturally responsive practice, curriculum design, problem solving, and reflective communication. Margarita advocates on the importance of arts and culture for the social and economic well-being of the local and global community. Her work advancing the art of LatinX, Black, Indigenous, and artists of color on Long Island has made her one of the most prominent leaders in Long Island. She is a board member for the New York State Dance Force, and a member of the Arts Advisory Council for the Suffolk County Legislature.
She has received numerous awards and proclamations for her leadership, her art and community work including 2021 Faces of Long Island, Newsday, 2018 Martin Luther King Living Legend Award, NAACP Islip, NY, 2018. Her work has been reviewed in the New York Times and by the Associated Press, Newsday, and numerous other media outlets.

Le encantan los deportes y está muy emocionado de formar parte del proyecto Fuenteovejuna, ya que permite al elenco compartir un poderoso mensaje de unidad y resiliencia, algo que la comunidad realmente necesita.Andres Espinosa is originally from Colombia and currently lives in East Hampton with his wife Adriana and their two children, Bella and Josh. He works as the Director of Finance for OLA. He enjoys sports and is very excited to be part of the Fuenteovejuna project, as it allows the cast to share a powerful message of unity and resilience—something the community truly needs.

Hazel Betzabeth Benalcázar Estrada, nació el 6 de agosto de 2014 en Quito, Ecuador. Su padre es Andrés Benalcázar y su madre es Maytee Estrada. Inició sus estudios en la Unidad Educativa Santo Domingo de Guzmán. Practica Ballet desde los 3 años, ha participado en varias competiciones y recitales artísticos. Viajó a Estados Unidos hace 3 años junto a sus padres, continúa con su formación académica en John Marshall Elementary school , combina la escuela con actividades como la natación, deporte con el que ha obtenido varias medallas y desarrolla sus habilidades en el baile, también ha logrado varios trofeos y reconocimientos. Es una niña inteligente, risueña, perseverante y con un gran corazón lleno de bondad.Hazel Betzabeth Benalcázar Estrada was born on August 6, 2014, in Quito, Ecuador. Her father is Andrés Benalcázar and her mother is Maytee Estrada. She began her studies at the Santo Domingo de Guzmán Educational Unit. Lucy Garduno
Originaria de Lima, Perú, y egresada en Administración Bancaria y de Seguros, cuenta con una sólida trayectoria de compromiso comunitario. En su país natal, gestionó una asociación de medianos empresarios enfocada en la autogestión de fondos para financiar proyectos productivos, demostrando su capacidad de liderazgo y organización.
En el ámbito artístico, participó en la puesta en escena de Fuenteovejuna, de Lope de Vega, bajo la dirección de Margarita Espada y Minerva Pérez, una coproducción de Guild Hall y OLA of Eastern Long Island. Actualmente, reside y trabaja en Sag Harbor, donde continúa su desarrollo actoral integrándose al nuevo proyecto teatral Cruce de Caminos, producido por el mismo equipo artístico. Se define como una persona empática y colaborativa, apasionada por la naturaleza, las artes plásticas, la cocina y la danza.
Originally from Lima, Peru, she holds a degree in Banking and Insurance Administration and possesses a strong background in community service. In her home country, she managed an association of mid-sized entrepreneurs focused on self-managed funds to finance productive projects, demonstrating her leadership and organizational skills.
In the performing arts, she participated in the production of Lope de Vega’s Fuenteovejuna, directed by Margarita Espada and Minerva Pérez—a co-production by Guild Hall and OLA of Eastern Long Island. Currently residing and working in Sag Harbor, she continues her artistic growth by joining the new theater project Cruce de Caminos, produced by the same creative team. She characterizes herself as an empathetic and collaborative individual with a passion for nature, visual arts, cooking, and dance.

Germán Calderón Herrera
Germán Calderón Herrera (Armenia, Quindío, Colombia; 9 de diciembre de 1986) es un actor colombiano cuya formación artística se cimentó en la Escuela de Artes Escénicas del Instituto de Cultura de Pereira. Su trayectoria comenzó desde la infancia, participando en producciones escolares y grupos de teatro comunitario, donde empezó a destacar por el realismo de sus interpretaciones. Su técnica actoral es el resultado de un riguroso método de investigación y de las enseñanzas de destacados maestros como Claudia López, Alexey Valencia, Fanuer Londoño, Andrés Aparicio y la profesora Krol, entre otros especialistas en expresión corporal, técnica vocal y dramaturgia.
En el ámbito personal, sus padres, Adela Herrera y Rigoberto Calderón, junto con sus hermanos, han sido pilares fundamentales en la consecución de sus objetivos profesionales. Tras un periodo de residencia en Europa y Estados Unidos dedicado a otros sectores profesionales y a la crianza de su hijo de 11 años, Matthew Calderón, Germán regresó a los escenarios en 2025. Su retorno se produjo con la interpretación del personaje de Alonso en la obra Fuenteovejuna de Lope de Vega, una producción realizada gracias a la colaboración de Minerva Pérez, Margarita Espada, OLA of Eastern Long Island y Goal Hal. Germán Calderón Herrera (born December 9, 1986, in Armenia, Quindío, Colombia) is a Colombian actor whose artistic foundation was established at the School of Performing Arts of the Pereira Institute of Culture. His career began in childhood, performing in school productions and community theater groups, where he first gained recognition for the realism of his characters. His acting technique is the product of a disciplined research method and the guidance of esteemed mentors such as Claudia López, Alexey Valencia, Fanuer Londoño, Andrés Aparicio, and Professor Krol, among other specialists in physical expression, vocal technique, and dramaturgy.
In his personal life, his parents, Adela Herrera and Rigoberto Calderón, along with his siblings, have been vital pillars in achieving his professional goals. After a period of living in Europe and the United States—during which he focused on other professional fields and raising his 11-year-old son, Matthew Calderón—Germán returned to the stage in 2025. This return featured his portrayal of Alonso in Lope de Vega’s Fuenteovejuna, a production made possible by Minerva Pérez, Margarita Espada, OLA of Eastern Long Island, and Goal Hal. This year, he continues his artistic journey by joining the new project titled CROSSROADS.

Daniel Jimbo
Soy Daniel Ernesto Jimbo Bautista, Cuencano de 33 años, nacido en El Carmen de Sinincay, un lugar cuya brisa fría, montañas y cascadas siempre me llaman de regreso. Me considero una persona leal, trabajadora y con visión, apasionado por la locución, el arte y los retos que me permiten crecer. La mayor inspiración de mi vida ha sido mi abuela Julia María, cuyo ejemplo de oración, trabajo y generosidad marcó profundamente mi camino.
Estudié periodismo en la Universidad Católica de Cuenca y me formé en radios como Constelación 91.7 FM y Radio Católica 98.1 FM, donde descubrí mi amor por la narración y el deporte. También he explorado el teatro, participando en obras como Fuente Ovejuna en el teatro Gill Hall y Cruce de Caminos, el cual lo estamos desarrolando y estará próximamente en escena.
Hoy desarrollo “La Horchata de Mi Abuela”, un café market en Ecuador que honra su legado y busca unir a la comunidad a través de la tradición, la salud y el servicio.
I am Daniel Ernesto Jimbo Bautista, a 33-year-old from Cuenca, born in El Carmen de Sinincay—a place whose cold breeze, mountains, and waterfalls always call me back. I consider myself a loyal, hardworking, and visionary person, passionate about voice-over work, art, and challenges that allow me to grow. The greatest inspiration of my life has been my grandmother, Julia María, whose example of prayer, hard work, and generosity deeply marked my path.
I studied journalism at the Catholic University of Cuenca and trained at radio stations such as Constelación 91.7 FM and Radio Católica 98.1 FM, where I discovered my love for narration and sports. I have also explored theater, participating in plays such as Fuente Ovejuna at the Gill Hall Theater and Cruce de Caminos, which we are currently developing and will soon be on stage.
Today, I am developing 'La Horchata de Mi Abuela,' a café market in Ecuador that honors her legacy and seeks to unite the community through tradition, health, and service.

Mauricio Leguízamo, a Colombian-American residing in Moriches, is a filmmaker by profession and a social artist by passion. His life revolves around stories, emotions, and the transformative power of art. He deeply believes in theater and film as tools to unite communities, inspire dreams, and give a voice to those who need it most.
He is part of this play because he shares its message of hope, unity, and strength for the Hispanic community. Mauricio embodies love for his roots, dedication, and the conviction that when we work together, we are capable of achieving extraordinary things.
Mauricio Leguízamo, colomboamericano residente en Moriches, es cineasta de profesión y artista social por pasión. Su vida gira alrededor de las historias, las emociones y el poder transformador del arte. Cree profundamente en el teatro y el cine como herramientas capaces de unir comunidades, inspirar sueños y dar voz a quienes más lo necesitan.
Forma parte de esta obra porque comparte su mensaje de esperanza, unión y fortaleza para la comunidad hispana. Mauricio representa el amor por sus raíces, el sacrificio y la convicción de que, cuando trabajamos juntos, somos capaces de lograr cosas extraordinarias.

La salud mental es su prioridad.Julieta Medina is Colombian and 45 years old. She has lived in the US for 5 years. She has 3 children. She currently works in cleaning and she prepares immigration forms. She has experience in hospitality, customer service, accounting, administration, and filing. She enjoys dancing, traveling, and theater. Mental health is her priority.

Marvin Vasquez is proudly Guatemalan. He currently lives in Riverhead with his family, who has supported him unconditionally throughout this entire process. He is proud to be participating in the first Spanish-language play at Guild Hall Theatre and to represent our Latino community as people who live art in our hearts. -
Minerva Perez
Minerva Perez is the executive director of OLA of Eastern Long Island, where she centers her work on the protection, empowerment, and celebration of our Latino community through OLA’s mission to create a safer, healthier, and more equitable East End region for all. As an advocate and an artist, she relishes being in the uncomfortable spaces where love and understanding can grow.
Ms. Perez holds a theatre arts degree from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She founded and ran a theatre company for 8 years in NYC. In addition to acting in theatre, film, and television, she has directed and produced independent films and local theatre productions including the only Spanish language version of the Vagina Monologues on the East End as well as the English version featuring cast members Brooke Shields, Blythe Danner, and Julie White. She has curated more than 10 OLA Latino Film Festivals which feature Spanish language films with English subtitles meant to bridge cultural interests and create harmony and understanding. She has created and produces two OLA shows on LTV meant to highlight community members and guests of all backgrounds and disciplines: “Conversations with OLA” and “Sabor con OLA”.
OLA of Eastern Long Island works to create a more equitable East End for Latino immigrants through advocating for just and inclusive government and school policies; protecting families; nurturing power and unity among Latinos through leadership workshops and other programs; and building bridges among different sectors of the East End community through celebrating arts and culture.

Silvana Pilco es originaria de Ecuador y vive en East-Hampton con su familia que está conformada por tres miembros. Le gusta la música, la cocina y el arte. Trabaja limpiando casas. Para ella es un honor ser parte de este gran elenco de actores. En lo personal ha enriquecido sus conocimientos debido a la diversidad de culturas, tradiciones y edades.
Silvana Pilco is originally from Ecuador and lives in East Hampton with her family of three. She enjoys music, cooking, and art. She works as a housecleaner. She feels honored to be part of this great cast of actors. It has enriched her knowledge due to the diversity of cultures, traditions, and ages.

Mi nombre es Génesis Polo. Originaria de la República Dominicana, emigré a los Estados Unidos a la edad de 11 años. Hace aproximadamente un año, a mis 16 años, descubrí mi profunda pasión por las artes escénicas tras participar en la producción “Fuenteovejuna: East End”, bajo la dirección de Margarita Espada y Minerva Pérez. Esa experiencia fue fundamental para reconocer mi vocación por el teatro, y desde entonces he buscado nuevas oportunidades para desarrollar este talento.
Me siento profundamente agradecida por la oportunidad de formar parte de “Cruce de Caminos”, una obra excepcional en la que todo el elenco ha entregado su corazón. Asimismo, deseo expresar mi gratitud a Margarita Espada y Minerva Pérez por confiar en mí una vez más para participar en una producción bajo su dirección. My name is Génesis Polo. Originally from the Dominican Republic, I moved to the United States at the age of 11. Approximately a year ago, at the age of 16, I discovered my profound passion for the performing arts after participating in the production “Fuenteovejuna: East End,” directed by Margarita Espada and Minerva Pérez. That experience was pivotal in realizing my calling for the stage, and I have since sought new opportunities to further develop this craft.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of “Cruce de Caminos,” an exceptional play into which the entire cast has poured its heart. I would also like to express my gratitude to Margarita Espada and Minerva Pérez for the wonderful opportunity to be part of a production under their direction once again. Evelin Portillo es madre orgullosa de cuatro hijos y dos perritos que son parte esencial de su familia. Originaria de Guatemala Reside en Manorville, NY, y es la Coordinadora de Mercadeo y Diseño en OLA del Este de Long Island. Evelin aporta una valiosa perspectiva multicultural a su trabajo, respaldada por una formación académica en diseño en Italia y España. Aunque no tiene experiencia en teatro, ama ser parte de esta producción tan importante para la comunidad.
Evelin Portillo is a proud mother of four children and two dogs who are an essential part of her family. Originally from Guatemala, she resides in Manorville, NY, and is the Marketing and Design Coordinator at OLA Eastern Long Island. Evelin brings a valuable multicultural perspective to her work, supported by an academic background in design in Italy and Spain. Passionate about design and curious, she is committed to her community and enjoys spending time with her family and taking long walks on the beach. Although she has no experience in theater, she loves being part of this important production for the community.

Actualmente se encuentra desarrollando sus propios programas, proyectos y después de haber sido partícipe de la obra magistral FUENTEOVEJUNA, donde su personaje nos adorno con sus flores y colores el escenario, se está preparando para la próxima aventura con otro maravilloso papel en la magnífica obra CRUCE DE CAMINOS que estamos seguros será, magistral!

Born in Colombia, she is an accomplished writer, coach, and public speaker. She studied Marketing and Advertising at the Colombo Europeo in Pereira before emigrating to the United Kingdom. In the UK, she dedicated herself to her lifelong passions for writing and leadership, expanding her expertise with studies in Happiness Coaching, Emotional Marketing, and personal development. Her work focuses on empowering individuals to reclaim their self-confidence and self-esteem.Currently, she is developing her own specialized programs and projects. Following her participation in the masterful production of Fuenteovejuna—where her character graced the stage with vibrant flowers and colors—she is now preparing for her next endeavor. She will take on another remarkable role in the upcoming play Cruce de Caminos, a production that promises to be truly magnificent.

She enjoys spending time with her son and family, as they've been her unwavering support throughout this process. She is thrilled and honored to be a part of this first Spanish-language production.

Ana Practica natación, voleibol y saxofón. Le gusta el teatro, bailar y pintar. Tiene 2 hermanos. Ana es una niña muy feliz y segura de mí misma.Ana Sofía Rengifo was born in Aruba, "the happy island," and lives in East Hampton. She is 11 years old. She is currently finishing fifth grade. She wants to be a veterinarian or a pediatrician. She swims, plays volleyball, and plays the saxophone. She enjoys theater, dancing, and painting. She has two brothers. Ana is a very happy and confident girl.

Nací el 10 de abril de 1985, ecuatoriano de alma, guayaquileño de corazón, barcelonista por amor, odontólogo de profesión; padre de dos hermosos hijos por bendición y actor por convicción.
Ser humano carismático, humilde, jovial y propositivo; encaminado al bien común y determinado a luchar por sus objetivos e ideales.
Encantado de pertenecer a tan maravilloso elenco, en nuestro proyecto Cruce de caminos, agradecido por tener la oportunidad de participar con la comunidad por segundo año consecutivo esperando en tener éxito rotundo; me despido muchas bendiciones para todos.

Le encanta pasar tiempo con su familia, amigos y su perro, Copper. Ama ayudar a la gente y reunir a su comunidad.
Karen Sanchez is the program manager for OLA. She is originally from Colombia and currently lives in Hampton Bays. She enjoys travelling, gardening, comedy, hiking, CrossFit, running, snowboarding, and cooking. She is happiest spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Copper. She loves helping people and bringing her community together.

Carlos Omar Tello nació en la República Argentina. Comenzó sus estudios en diferentes escuelas de teatro a los 17 años. Luego se perfeccionó en peluquería teatral y maquillaje artístico participando en competiciones logrando premios nacionales e internacionales. Ahora desde hace muchos años trabajó en Nueva York, en Los Hampton.Carlos Omar Tello was born in Argentina. He began his studies at various theater schools at the age of 17. He then advanced his skills in theatrical hairdressing and makeup, participating in competitions and winning national and international awards. He has worked in New York City and the Hamptons for many years.

Trabajo para OLA of Eastern Long Island como Asistente Ejecutiva de Minerva y también soy la Asociada de Producción de esta maravillosa producción. Me encanta pasar tiempo con mi familia y amigos, leer, el arte, la música y mis mascotas.
My name is Erika Vargas and I am from Mexico but I live in Southampton. I work for OLA of Eastern Long Island as Minerva’s Executive Support and I am also the Production Associate for this wonderful production. I love spending time with family & friends, reading, the arts, music, and my pets.
