SUMMARY:ARCMANORO NILES: FORGOTTEN WORDS I NEVER GOT TO SAY
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition traces a decade of evolution in the artist’s practice since his 2016 residency at Guild Hall\, the inaugural program of our Artist in Residence initiative. Known for his saturated color\, reflective surfaces\, and emotionally charged scenes drawn from daily life and memory\, Niles has developed a distinctive visual language that challenges conventions of portraiture. \nEarly in his career\, he became frustrated with traditional methods of rendering skin tone\, finding they lacked the depth and dimension he observed in real life. This led him to experiment with color—layering pinks\, oranges\, and purples to evoke an internal light. His chiaroscuro-like approach reveals both a dedication to craft and a palette that defines his work across portraits\, domestic interiors\, and landscapes. \nGuild Hall is pleased to present a selection of works from the past decade\, juxtaposing recent and earlier pieces which highlight the growth and complexity of Niles’s practice. \nThis exhibition is organized by Melanie Crader\, museum director and curator of visual arts\, with support from Philippa Content\, museum manager and registrar and Claire Hunter\, museum coordinator and curatorial associate. \nGALLERY HOURS:\nTHURSDAY TO SUNDAY\, 12-5 PM through July 5\nWEDNESDAY TO SUNDAY\, 12-5 PM from July 8-19 \nNEW: Third Thursdays! DESCRIPTION:Claire Watson is the 2023 Top Honors recipient of the 84th Artist Members Exhibition\, selected by Virginia Lebermann\, cofounder and board president of Ballroom Marfa. This exhibition marks Watson’s first major institutional solo presentation on the East End of Long Island\, where she has maintained a home and studio in Water Mill for three decades. \nWatson’s sculptures and mixed-media assemblages are composed from found materials. In her recent work\, she deconstructs salvaged leather garments and reconfigures them into new formal compositions using traditional sewing and pattern-making techniques. These works highlight the tactile and structural qualities of leather\, transforming utilitarian objects into forms with renewed expressive potential. The Changing Media Landscape will feature two media icons who helped drive that transformation\, reflecting on where we have been and where we may be headed next. \nTina Brown\, the influential editor behind Vanity Fair and The New Yorker and founder of The Daily Beast\, has long been at the center of major shifts in journalism. Tom Freston\, co-founder of MTV\, former CEO of Viacom\, and author of the 2025 book Unplugged: Adventures from MTV to Timbuktu\, helped build some of the most recognizable global media brands of the past half-century and continues to weigh in on the industry’s future. \nModerating is Ken Auletta\, longtime New Yorker writer and one of the country’s most trusted media observers\, known for his reporting on the intersection of journalism\, business\, and power. Enjoy live music in the Minikes garden curated by Carlos Lama during extended gallery hours\, offering the perfect backdrop to visit the exhibitions on view at a relaxed pace. Concessions\, including wine\, beer\, cocktails\, and light refreshments will be available for purchase from Louise & Howie’s Coffee Cart. Whether you come for the music\, the art\, the social vibe\, or all of the above\, Third Thursdays offers a welcoming way to spend warm nights on the East End with family and friends. \nWhatever Lola Wants is the East End’s very own youthful American Songbook and Jazz trio. They aim to unite the community through the power of music and by authentically resurfacing timeless tunes that speak to love & humanity. \nThe titular vocalist\, Lola Lama\, is a local actor\, singer\, and performer. With beginnings at Sag Harbor Elementary and Pierson\, Lama recently earned a BFA in Drama from the New Studio on Broadway at NYU Tisch. She also received training at the Experimental Theatre Wing at NYU\, Atlantic Acting School\, and Interlochen Arts Academy. In addition to Whatever Lola Wants\, Lama is the lead singer of the local multi-generational female-centric 80s Rock band\, The Cherry Bombs. \nOn keys and additional vocals is 17-year-old NYC and East End-based singer/songwriter Matthew Brand. Starting piano lessons at only four years old\, Brand is a true virtuoso\, having just graduated from Mannes School of Music and kicking off a new chapter at NYU’s esteemed Clive Davis Institute. Matthew has composed\, lyricized\, produced\, and recorded a pop-rock EP and other original singles. More accolades include writing a Piano Concerto that he premiered at Carnegie Hall\, hosting an annual Charity Rock Concert at Horace Mann named “UrbanAid\,” and music directing Voices for Change. When he’s not playing solo in Brooklyn\, Matthew grooves alongside performers Lola Lama\, Reilly Rose\, and The Cherry Bombs. \nBassist Dylan Hewett is a fellow Pierson graduate and local musician with a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Gettysburg College. Hewett has experience playing with several East-End bands on both electric and upright bass. To name a few\, the Lynn Blue Band\, Wood Dog\, and the Jack Marshall Trio. Last Summer\, Dylan had the chance to play with legendary musician Ed Sheeran at Rosie’s Amagansett. \nAdvance reservations are available\, but are not required.

Created for Dance Theatre of Harlem\, Forsythe’s Blake Works IV is set to the propulsive\, intricately structured music of British singer-songwriter and composer James Blake\, whose contemporary electronic soundscape inspires a dynamic reimagining of classical ballet vocabulary. \nGarland’s Higher Ground draws on the music of Motown icon Stevie Wonder\, weaving together songs including the title track “Higher Ground” and selections from Wonder’s seminal 1970s catalog. The program spotlights a generation pushing boundaries across sound\, storytelling\, and technology. \nFrom stripped-back songwriting to genre-defying production and globally inspired musical traditions\, the evening captures music in motion—fresh\, in-progress\, and happening right now. It’s a rare chance to experience artists at a pivotal moment\, before what comes next. \nFeaturing Nora Conlon\, an East End–based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose work blends folk and alternative rock with a focus on lyrical vulnerability and dynamic live performance; Sofia D’Angelo\, a New York–based pop artist whose recent single “Time” topped a Billboard fan poll and signals a breakout solo moment; Halima\, a queer artist\, singer\, songwriter\, and producer whose sound draws from soul\, electronic\, alternative\, and East African influences to create deeply personal and globally resonant music\, earning her recognition as a singular voice and icon within queer music communities; and Ben Lapidus\, a songwriter and musical comedian known for blending satire and sincerity across pop\, punk\, folk\, and beyond.
