SUMMARY:ARCMANORO NILES: FORGOTTEN WORDS I NEVER GOT TO SAY
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition traces a decade of evolution in the artist’s practice since his 2016 residency at Guild Hall\, the inaugural program of our Artist in Residence initiative. Known for his saturated color\, reflective surfaces\, and emotionally charged scenes drawn from daily life and memory\, Niles has developed a distinctive visual language that challenges conventions of portraiture. \nEarly in his career\, he became frustrated with traditional methods of rendering skin tone\, finding they lacked the depth and dimension he observed in real life. This led him to experiment with color—layering pinks\, oranges\, and purples to evoke an internal light. His chiaroscuro-like approach reveals both a dedication to craft and a palette that defines his work across portraits\, domestic interiors\, and landscapes. \nGuild Hall is pleased to present a selection of works from the past decade\, juxtaposing recent and earlier pieces which highlight the growth and complexity of Niles’s practice. \nThis exhibition is organized by Melanie Crader\, museum director and curator of visual arts\, with support from Philippa Content\, museum manager and registrar and Claire Hunter\, museum coordinator and curatorial associate. \nGALLERY HOURS:\nTHURSDAY TO SUNDAY\, 12-5 PM through July 5\nWEDNESDAY TO SUNDAY\, 12-5 PM from July 8-19 \nNEW: Third Thursdays! On the third Thursday of every month from May through September\, galleries will stay open until 7:30 PM\, and will include live music in the garden and exhibition-related programs to follow. \nMUSEUM ADMISSION:\n$12 / $10 for Seniors\, 65+\nFree for Members\, Children\, and Students \n

SUMMARY:CLAIRE WATSON: RE-PAIRED
DESCRIPTION:Claire Watson is the 2023 Top Honors recipient of the 84th Artist Members Exhibition\, selected by Virginia Lebermann\, cofounder and board president of Ballroom Marfa. This exhibition marks Watson’s first major institutional solo presentation on the East End of Long Island\, where she has maintained a home and studio in Water Mill for three decades. \nWatson’s sculptures and mixed-media assemblages are composed from found materials. In her recent work\, she deconstructs salvaged leather garments and reconfigures them into new formal compositions using traditional sewing and pattern-making techniques. These works highlight the tactile and structural qualities of leather\, transforming utilitarian objects into forms with renewed expressive potential. The traces of wear embedded in the garments suggest histories of the body and labor\, which Watson refashions into abstract meditations on human form and presence. \nThis exhibition is organized by Melanie Crader\, museum director and curator of visual arts\, with support from Philippa Content\, museum manager and registrar and Claire Hunter\, museum coordinator and curatorial associate. \nGALLERY HOURS:\nTHURSDAY TO SUNDAY\, 12-5 PM\nWEDNESDAY TO SUNDAY\, 12-5 PM from July 8-19 \nNEW: Third Thursdays! SUMMARY:HAMPTONS INSTITUTE: NO KINGS AND MORE – CARRYING FORWARD THE SPIRIT OF REVOLUTION
DESCRIPTION:A Conversation with Leah Greenberg\, Ezra Levin and Carlos Eduardo Espina\nModerated by Margaret Hoover \nPresented by Guild Hall & The Common Good\nSeries programmed by Ellen Chesler and Patricia Duff \nMore than eight million people took to the streets in 3\,300 determined yet joyous gatherings this past spring—the largest protests in American history. What motivates this contemporary revival of civic engagement? Who is behind this effort? How has it been organized\, and what has been its impact? \n\nLeah Greenberg and Ezra Levin\, partners in life and in work\, are the co-founders of Indivisible\, the grassroots network that has mobilized millions of Americans around civic participation and democratic reform through “No Kings” rallies across the country and around the world. Joining them is Carlos Eduardo Espina\, a leading digital organizer and immigrant rights advocate whose widely followed social media platforms have mobilized millions\, raised critical funds\, and amplified stories often absent from national discourse\, helping shape a more inclusive vision of civic participation. \nThe conversation will be moderated by Margaret Hoover\, CNN political commentator\, host of Firing Line\, and former White House staffer\, known for her clear-eyed perspective on American politics. Together\, the panel will explore civic responsibility\, collective action\, and how democratic ideals continue to evolve in a divided country.

SUMMARY:HAMPTONS INSTITUTE: THE CHANGING MEDIA LANDSCAPE
DESCRIPTION:A Conversation with Tina Brown and Tom Freston\nModerated by Ken Auletta \nPresented by Guild Hall & The Common Good\nSeries programmed by Ellen Chesler and Patricia Duff\n \nOver the course of just three decades\, the media business has been reshaped: newspapers and magazines have shuttered; three broadcast networks gave way to cable television and then fragmented further into a world of digital platforms\, streaming\, and artificial intelligence. The Changing Media Landscape will feature two media icons who helped drive that transformation\, reflecting on where we have been and where we may be headed next. \nTina Brown\, the influential editor behind Vanity Fair and The New Yorker and founder of The Daily Beast\, has long been at the center of major shifts in journalism. Tom Freston\, co-founder of MTV\, former CEO of Viacom\, and author of the 2025 book Unplugged: Adventures from MTV to Timbuktu\, helped build some of the most recognizable global media brands of the past half-century and continues to weigh in on the industry’s future. \nModerating is Ken Auletta\, longtime New Yorker writer and one of the country’s most trusted media observers\, known for his reporting on the intersection of journalism\, business\, and power. The discussion will address the rise of social platforms\, the erosion of traditional gatekeepers\, and the responsibility media leaders carry in an age of misinformation and polarization. \nA book signing will follow the program in the lobby.

SUMMARY:HAMPTONS INSTITUTE: MIDTERMS 2026: IS DEMOCRACY ITSELF ON THE BALLOT?
DESCRIPTION:A Conversation with Jeh Johnson and Michael Luttig\nModerated by Michael Waldman \nPresented by Guild Hall & The Common Good\nSeries programmed by Ellen Chesler and Patricia Duff\n \nPresident Trump has asserted an expansive vision of executive power\, challenging established legal and constitutional norms: he has dismantled congressionally authorized federal agencies and programs; imposed unilateral tariffs; summarily arrested and deported immigrants; canceled university grants for scientific and medical research; pardoned convicted criminals; and ignored protections against conflicts of interest. He has authorized military incursions in Venezuela and elsewhere\, engaged in war in Iran\, and publicly threatened interference with midterm elections. \nThe courts have pushed back\, reversing many—but not all—of these actions. Litigation continues. Where do we stand today? How strong is our democracy? Midterms 2026: Is Democracy Itself on the Ballot? will bring together leading legal and national security voices to examine what is at stake in the months ahead. \nJeh Johnson\, former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security and General Counsel of the Department of Defense\, has served at the highest levels of government during moments of crisis. Michael Luttig\, a former federal appellate judge and one of the country’s most respected conservative legal thinkers\, has become a prominent voice on the rule of law and constitutional limits. \nThe conversation will be moderated by Michael Waldman\, president and CEO of the Brennan Center for Justice and a leading authority on voting rights and constitutional law. \nA book signing in the lobby will follow the program.

SUMMARY:JOHN WATERS: GOING TO EXTREMES
DESCRIPTION:No matter what your pubic-politics are these days\, you have to admit it’s time for everybody to go to extremes. \n\nJohn Waters is back on the road with a whole new fast-moving crackpot comedy show that will beg the authorities to drop a net on both him and his rabidly insane audience. Yessir\, the Duke of Dirt has reckless eyeballs and he’s lookin’ for you\, lunatics! \nLet’s all drill a hole in our heads so we’re high forever and crash the Kennedy Center! His filth followers don’t get off\, they get on you and scream\, “Go! Go! Go to the John Waters show!” \nGoing to Extremes. It’ll make you scream!
