SUMMARY:JASON BARD YARMOSKY: TIME HAS MANY FACES
DESCRIPTION:Jason Bard Yarmosky’s work centers on themes of aging\, time\, and memory—subjects the artist has been fascinated with since childhood. Born in 1987 in New York\, Yarmosky developed a connection to these ideas through his close relationship with his grandparents\, who were six decades his senior. Growing up\, he often visited museums where he noticed the historical aspect of idealized beauty\, which often emphasized youth\, yet he yearned for a varied perspective that reflected a broader personal experience. \nFor over ten years\, his grandparents were the subjects of his portraits\, helping him explore the complex aspects of growing older including vulnerability\, care\, wisdom\, and humor. These works became a celebration of aging\, resisting cultural tendencies that diminish joy\, individuality\, and dignity in later life. \nThrough his practice\, Yarmosky mixes traditional 17th- and 18th-century painting techniques with contemporary imagery\, incorporating dreamlike elements\, theatrical costume\, and staged interiors that heighten a sense of intimacy. The use of costuming functions as a throughline in his work: it both conceals and reveals\, able to disguise or bring out aspects of identity. The play of masks\, uniforms\, and imagined roles underscores how play is often discouraged as one grows older\, yet reclaimed in the freedom of later life. \nYarmosky’s paintings move between tenderness and absurdity\, between the heaviness of mortality and moments of celebration. His imagery suggests that humor and imagination persist even in the face of loss\, and that through portraiture\, costume\, and the space of the interior\, stories of aging are both preserved and transformed. \nYarmosky has visited the East End of Long Island since early childhood. Long known as an area of respite\, he returned to his family’s home—architect Andrew Geller’s iconic Double Diamond House—in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic\, following the passing of his grandparents\, as a restorative experience for his life and practice. \nThis exhibition is organized by Melanie Crader\, museum director and curator of visual arts\, with support from Philippa Content\, museum manager and registrar and Claire Hunter\, museum coordinator and curatorial associate. \nGALLERY HOURS:\nTHURSDAY TO SUNDAY\, 12-5 PM \nMUSEUM ADMISSION:\n$12 / $10 for Seniors\, 65+\nFree for Members\, Children\, and Students \nAdvance reservations are not required.

SUMMARY:LIBERTY LABS: A DECADE OF DESIGN
DESCRIPTION:Liberty Labs: A Decade of Design marks the 10th anniversary of the Liberty Labs Foundation\, co-founded by Evan Yee\, who grew up in Sag Harbor and is now based in Brooklyn. The exhibition brings together work by all the collective’s members\, past and present\, reflecting on their shared commitment to art\, design\, and community. \nPresented in the Marks Family South Gallery\, the exhibition draws inspiration from the room’s history as a salon\, a space where art\, music\, and conversation once converged. In that spirit\, A Decade of Design invites visitors to engage directly with the works. Select furniture pieces may be used\, sound elements will activate the space\, and occasional public events will further animate the gallery\, blending art\, design\, and social interaction. \nEvan Yee leads the exhibition design\, presenting functional objects and artworks from 33 current and former members. Together\, they exemplify a creative community where collaboration and experimentation thrive—a living\, working\, and evolving studio environment. \nParticipating artists:\nAlara Alkan\, Alex Sagnella\, Andrea Steves\, Annika Bowker\, Bowen Liu\, Bryan Johnson\, Charlie Recknagel\, Cherylyn Ahrens\, Chris Cushingham\, Chris Gentry\, Cissy Huang\, Cody Campanie\, Evan Jewett\, Evan Yee\, Jason Hernandez\, Jason Pfaeffle\, Jess Chace\, Joel Seigle\, John Koten\, Jon Billing\, Julien Leyssene\, Kelsey Knight Mohr\, Maggie Pei\, Michael Yates\, Pat Keesey\, Pat Kim\, Reed Hansuld\, Sam Kallman\, Shengning Zhang\, Thomas Breglia\, Thomas Yang\, Timothy Furstnau\, Todd Higuchi \nThis exhibition is organized by Melanie Crader\, museum director and curator of visual arts\, with support from Philippa Content\, museum manager and registrar and Claire Hunter\, museum coordinator and curatorial associate. \nGALLERY HOURS:\nTHURSDAY TO SUNDAY\, 12-5 PM \nMUSEUM ADMISSION:\n$12 / $10 for Seniors\, 65+\nFree for Members\, Children\, and Students \nAdvance reservations are not required.

SUMMARY:YES\, AND: INTRO TO IMPROV - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:SIX-WEEK COURSE\nTUESDAYS\, FEBRUARY 3-MARCH 10\, 6-7:30 PM\n\n \nJoin Guild Hall’s Kayla Matters and Amy Kirwin for a six-week improv adventure—perfect for adult learners of every experience level. This course dives into the sacred principles of improv (like saying “Yes\, and…” even when you deeply disagree) while helping you flex collaboration\, creativity\, and bold\, glorious spontaneity.\n\n \nAfter six weeks of controlled nonsense\, you’ll present an invited sharing for friends and family—an evening where your loved ones will witness your transformation and whisper\, “We don’t know what happened\, but we support them.” Applause will be given. Identities may be shed. Someone might become a mailbox.\n \nBring your imagination\, your humor\, and a willingness to look ridiculous. (Trust us—that’s a good thing.)\n \n\n\n\n \nImprov is distinct from stand-up comedy (which uses pre-written jokes and is performed solo) and sketch comedy (which is scripted and rehearsed). It is a team-based art form that emphasizes support\, trust\, and shared creativity. We will explore these core principles:\n\n\n\n\n\nYes\, and…: The foundational rule of improv. Performers agree with what their partner has presented (the “yes”) and then add new information to build the scene (the “and”). This fosters a collaborative environment and keeps the scene moving forward\, rather than shutting down ideas.\nActive Listening: Since everything is unplanned\, performers must listen closely to their scene partners and be present in the moment to react to new information.\nMaking Choices: Improvisers make strong\, specific choices about who their character is\, where they are\, and what the central conflict is to establish the scene’s reality quickly.\nEmbracing Mistakes: There are no “mistakes” in improv\, only unexpected offers. Performers justify whatever happens and weave it into the narrative\, which helps maintain momentum and can lead to hilarious and creative turn.

SUMMARY:GHTAC: DON'T YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN COFFEE?
DESCRIPTION: \nDon’t You Know How to Make Your Own Coffee?\nPresented by the Guild Hall Teen Arts Council\n \nDocumentary theatre meets community storytelling in this original Verbatim Theatre piece created by the Guild Hall Teen Arts Council (GHTAC). Rooted in the ethnodramatic practice pioneered by Anna Deavere Smith\, this newly devised work brings real interviews to the stage—performed word for word and gesture for gesture—honoring the authentic voices of the Hamptons community.\n \nOver the past three months\, GHTAC members have explored the rising cost of living in the Hamptons as their central research focus. Through interviews with local community leaders and residents\, students examined how affordability shapes daily life\, work\, and belonging\, and questioned who gets to live and work in the region today. The project was developed in collaboration with Professor Joe Salvatore\, creator of NYU’s Verbatim Performance Lab and author of Creating Ethnodrama: A Theatrical Approach to Research\, who guided students in transforming research into performance.\n \nThis public presentation marks the culmination of GHTAC’s ethnodrama unit and invites the community to experience a timely\, thoughtful portrait of life in the Hamptons—told entirely in the words of those who live it.

SUMMARY:BYOV (BRING YOUR OWN VINYL)
DESCRIPTION:A collective soundtrack created by neighbors\, visitors\, strangers\, and friends. \nJoin us for a vinyl listening and music-sharing gathering hosted by Liberty Labs member Joel Seigle—industrial designer and custom sound system builder. \nRemember vinyl? The weight of it. The crackle before the needle settles. This is an invitation to slow down and listen together. Bring a record or two—old favorites\, rare finds\, beloved classics\, borrowed gems\, inherited oddities\, or total mysteries you’ve never actually played. If it’s on vinyl\, it belongs here. \nWe’ll take turns and share the room. No playlists. No skipping ahead. Just sound\, stories\, and the quiet thrill of hearing something new through someone else’s ears. \nCome as you are. Bring what you love (or what confuses you). Let’s listen together. \n$12 / $10 for Seniors\, 65+\nFree for Members\, Children\, and Students \n\n\nJoel Seigle is a designer and maker whose practice is shaped by a balance between nature and urban culture. Raised outside Chicago in a family connected to the lumber trade and trained in industrial design at Pratt Institute\, his work spans a range of materials while maintaining a clean\, modern aesthetic. \nEvan Yee is a founding member of Liberty Labs and a Brooklyn-based artist and fabricator who grew up between Oakland\, California\, and Sag Harbor\, New York. His practice evolved from painting into multimedia sculpture\, installation\, and metalworking\, which now anchors his work.
