SUMMARY:83rd Artist Members Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Click here to view all works available for purchase. \nThis year Guild Hall celebrates its 90th Anniversary and its 83rd Artist Members Exhibition\, and we are thrilled to announce Gagosian Director and Curator Antwaun Sargent as the awards juror. \n\n\nThe first Artist Members Exhibition took place in 1938\, shortly after Guild Hall’s inception in 1931. The exhibition is the oldest non-juried show on Long Island and one of the few non-juried exhibitions still running. Deeply rooted in the history of the East End artist colony\, early participants included Jackson Pollock\, Lee Krasner\, Alfonso Ossorio\, Perle Fine\, Bill King\, James Brooks\, Charlotte Park\, John Little and many more\, showing their support of Guild Hall and its role as their community Museum\, Theater\, and Education Center. \n\n\n\n\nDue to the wonderful popularity of this exhibition\, over 400 artists participate each year. The Artist Members Exhibition attracts remarkable art world professionals as awards jurors who select winners in the categories of Top Honors\, Best Abstract\, Best Representational\, Best Photograph\, Best Work on Paper\, Best Sculpture\, Best Mixed Media\, Catherine and Theo Hios Best Landscape Award\, Best New Artist and up to 10 Honorable Mentions. The Top Honors winner is also awarded a solo exhibition in the Museum at a later date. We are honored to include Antwaun Sargent to the list of esteemed jurors. \n\n\n\nThe new tradition of creating an ecommerce website in conjunction with the exhibition continues this year in addition to virtual gallery tours and artist talks. \n\n  \nTIMED TICKETS AND VISITOR INFORMATION \nTo ensure the health and safety of its visitors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic\, Guild Hall has instituted the following measures: \n\nReservations to visit the Museum are recommended. You can reserve timed tickets online or by calling 631-324-0806 Friday-Sunday\, 12-5 p.m. Drop-ins are also welcome!\nVisitors are asked to be on time for their appointment. Visits are for a maximum of one hour and no more than 50 people will be allowed in the museum galleries at a time.\nVisitors should enter through the left most front door of the building and check in with the Receptionist at the box office. A one-way footpath proceeds throughout the museum.\nMasks are required in the building for all patrons over the age of 2.\nSocial distancing of at least 6 feet is encouraged in the museum galleries and lobby.\n\n\n  \nPARTICIPATING ARTISTS\nRules\, Guidelines\, and Drop–Off/Pick–Up Information\nClick here to Schedule to Pick Up Your Work

SUMMARY:Hamptons Observatory and Guild Hall present A Sky Full of Poems with Dava Sobel
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Josh Gladstone \nThe skies above have moved us to explore\, imagine and express ourselves regardless of who we are or where we live. Across time and nations\, the planets\, moons and stars we see in our dark skies\, the great telescopes and observatories we have created to view and study those wonders\, and the spacecraft we have built to explore the heavens\, have inspired and added meaning to all our lives. It is not surprising that such experiences have been eloquently–and sometimes humorously–expressed by poets. \nPlease join Hamptons Observatory and Guild Hall for this free public presentation. Dava Sobel\, bestselling author and Poetry Editor of the magazine\, “Scientific American\,” will discuss how the skies have served to inspire poets. A trio of gifted actors – Nehassaiu deGannes\, Laura Hix and Isaac Klein – will recite a selection of celestially-inspired poems which will be accompanied by related visuals\, including Apollo by Elizabeth Alexander\, Annie Pearl Smith Discovers Moonlight by Patricia Smith\, and Three Views of Mars by Jessica Goodfellow. \nRegistration Required – Free or additional donation\nLink will be emailed 24 hours prior to those who register

SUMMARY:Artist-in-Residence Showcase: Ryan Campbell
DESCRIPTION:Join Playwright and Guild Hall 2021 Guild House Artist-in-Residence\, Ryan Campbell for the premiere of his one-person play\, Speed Kills in the Slaughter West featuring actor\, Ariana Venturi.  \n“The cathedral was on fire. Are right choices even possible?  \nThe evening will be presented as a YouTube Premier event on Guild Hall’s YouTube channel. Campbell will be joining the premier to answer questions from viewers in real time about the work and residency. \nAbout Guild Hall’s Guild House Artist-in-Residence Program\nEstablished in 2016\, Guild Hall’s Guild House Artist-in-Residence (GHAIR) program offers artists and collectives the time and space to research\, experiment\, and develop new ideas/projects. Throughout the month-long residency\, residents connect with accomplished artists\, community leaders\, and philanthropists at weekly salon dinners\, receive mentorship from select members of our Academy of the Arts and Staff\, and visit artist studios\, cultural centers\, and the natural preserves of the Hamptons.  \nDue to the Covid19 pandemic\, the Winter 2021 GHAIR program was completed remotely from each artists home/studio.

SUMMARY:Exquisite Corpse Company in association Guild Hall presents Zoetrope
DESCRIPTION:Two people\, a fish\, a New York City apartment on top of a trailer bed\, and you. Exquisite Corpse Company is back with an interactive\, immersive\, and portable living diorama of 2020. Written by our writers in residence: Leah Barker\, Emily Krause\, and Elinor T Vanderburg\, and co-directed by Porcia Lewis and ECC’s Artistic Director Tess Howsam\, Zoetrope will be on the streets\, literally\, of Brooklyn and beyond with socially distanced seating for a limited and lucky audience\, summer 2021. \nThe mission of this project is to use our shared experiences as a nation and as individuals\, to create an interactive performance that offers reflective healing and generative dialogue as we continue to process 2020 in 2021. Linking moments of connection and loneliness\, with a surrealist twist\, this mobile piece presents an accessible (Covid-19 conscious) platform for people across the New York City boroughs and state lines. \nOver the course of 35 minutes\, the audience experiences an interactive\, COVID-19 safe\, live performance\, and plays a role in dictating the way the story plays out.  The project aims to explore interactivity and intimacy in a time of isolation. Functioning like a traveling peep-show\, audience members peer inside a living room that is equal parts familiar and absurd as they experience a living room drama unlike any they’ve seen before. \nSupported by and developed at Guild Hall’s John Drew Theater in East Hampton\, NY in the spring of 2021.

SUMMARY:Karin Waisman: The Horizon Is Not a Straight Line
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Talk: Karin Waisman in conversation with Estrellita Brodsky PhD: May 8 at 3pm \nWoodhouse Gallery \nCurator: Christina Strassfield  \nKarin Waisman is an Argentinian\, multidisciplinary artist whose practice investigates the rhythmic cadence and pulsating patterns of nature. Her work includes large-scale public installations\, wall reliefs\, and drawings that explore our perception of the natural world— its fluid and contradictory processes\, boundless growth\, and imminent threat of disorder. In this new exhibition at Guild Hall\, Waisman will present The Horizon Is Not a Straight Line\, a site specific\, 250-inch long cast resin and ceramic wall relief that investigates the notion of the border\, conceiving it not as a straight line but a complex contact point between two elements that push and pull while continuing to support one another. Also included are two series of Waisman’s pencil drawings on mylar. The first\, Fragments of a Mountain (2018–2021)\, studies the passage of geological time\, absolute and determined by emptiness. Hundreds of years of erosion expose cavities in rock that hold humidity and debris. The second series\, titled The Ocean Drawings (2012-2014)\, immerses the viewer into varying depths\, currents\, and temperatures\, evoking oceanic currents that move us deeper then closer to the surface. The final and earliest work\, Siren’s Beach (1996)\, unfolds across the floor in a cast-aluminum sculpture depicting a segment of desiccated land fragmented into a maze of Pythagorean spirals. This is the most in-depth presentation of Waisman’s internationally exhibited collection of work to date.  \nWaisman has completed commissions for institutions such as Espacio Escultórico del Desierto in San Luis Potosí\, México; Museo del Barrio in New York\, NY; Plattsburgh Sculpture Park at SUNY Plattsburgh\, NY; ART/OMI Sculpture Park in Ghent\, NY; and Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City\, NY. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States and internationally\, including Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill\, NY; Museo del Barrio in New York\, NY; SculptureCenter in Long Island City\, NY; Point of Contact in Syracuse\, NY; Wallace Gallery in SUNY Old Westbury\, NY; Neuhoff Gallery in New York\, NY; Haim Chanin Fine Arts in New York\, NY; Plattsburgh State Art Museum in Plattsburgh\, NY; Hartell Gallery at Cornell University\, NY; Überseemusum\, Bremen; Unesco Institut für Pädagogik in Hamburg\, Germany; Bürgerhalle im Rathaus in Wolfsburg\, Germany; Museo del Chopo in Mexico City\, Mexico; Yvonamore Palix Gallery in Houston\, TX; and Fundacion Banco Patricios in Buenos Aires\, Argentina. \n  \nTIMED TICKETS AND VISITOR INFORMATION \nTo ensure the health and safety of its visitors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic\, Guild Hall has instituted the following measures: \n\nReservations to visit the Museum are recommended. SUMMARY:Bel Canto Boot Camp: April Sunday Matinées
DESCRIPTION:For the past three months\, every Sunday at 3 o’clock dozens of singers and lovers of singing from across the world have met to listen topically curated recordings from the past 120 years. Inspired by the success of its Audiophile Society\, Bel Canto Boot Camp (BCBC) has expanded their program and collaboration with Guild Hall in a new series\, Sunday Matinées.  \nSunday Matinée’s is a weekly salon series exploring the ways in which we listen\, react\, and connect with opera and the vocal arts. The sessions heavily use the chat feature on zoom\, allowing participants to “pass notes” in real time while the music is happening. At a BCBC session\, we do not have to wait till intermission to share our thoughts and excitement about what we hear!  \nThe April series includes a special three-part opera news lecture titled “Opera in the Papers\,” facilitated by guest artist\, Dr. David Ekstrum and Judith Malafronte.  \nSCHEDULE  \nAn Operatic Easer\, Cavalleria Rusticana: Sunday\, April 4\nAudiophile Society presents its first curated listening of an entire opera- Mascagni’s beloved opera\, set on Easter morning.   \nOpera in the Papers\, Part I: Sunday\, April 11\nA look at opera criticism in print paired with listening to the critiqued singers and their performances.
